Player Eligibility

Participation in the Tri-City Blue American Legion Baseball program requires a sense of commitment and can be demanding -- but it offers a wealth of rewards, as well as opportunities to grow and have fun. For players who take their baseball play seriously, who are sincerely interested in building a strong sense of camaraderie with players across school boundaries, and who are driven to achieve excellence and success in team play, this is the program. For parents who want to help fulfill their childs'' goals to play ball and improve their abilities, who are willing to reinforce the need for hard work -- both for individual and team benefit, who are willing to foster an attitude of maturity and sportmanship both on and off the field, and who are committed to supporting their childs' participation in the program, this is the program.

Under National American Legion Baseball Rules --

  1. For 2007, only those born on or after January 1, 1988 are eligible. (Refer to the Rules Section of the National American Legion website for additional information.)

  1. Players who are eligible to play for Tri-City Blue include those

    1. who attend St. Anthony High School (the "base school"), which is located within St. Anthony/New Brighton Independent School District #282. (Special "option declaration and waiver/release" rules apply, however, if a player lives outside of the St. Anthony boundary, but still attends St. Anthony High School.

      or

    1. who reside within the combined boundaries of Columbia Heights and St. Anthony High Schools, regardless if actually attending one of these schools or not. (Again, special "option declaration and waiver/release" rules apply if a player lives within the combined Columbia Heights/St. Anthony boundary, but attends a high school that is outside of the combined boundary -- or if a player living in the Columbia Heights school district actually lives closer to another team's base school.) Residence is generally determined as of March 31st of that year's season of play. The player's legal residence is defined as his parents' or permanent court-ordered guardian's permanent and legal residence. Special circumstances apply if the player's parents are divorced or legally separated, with one parent living within the recruiting area and the other not.

For more specific and the most up-to-date information on player eligibility, residency requirements, and recruiting methods/zones, take this link to the National American Legion's Baseball web site. (Adobe Acrobat Reader is required; it can be downloaded at the site.) Pay particular attention to Rule 2 (Player Eligibility) and Rules 4 and 5 (Player Recruiting Plan B.) Use the "back button" on your Internet browser to return to this page/site.

Players who meet the eligibility requirements, who are willing and able to abide with American Legion Baseball and Tri-City's sportsmanship, conduct and team rules, and who are committed to participating fully to the best of their abilities on a team basis, may try-out for the Tri-City Blue American Legion Baseball team. Try-outs are held annually each Spring. For further information on scheduled dates, locations and times for try-outs, watch the "Current News and Upcoming Events" section on the Tri-City Blue page of this site, or e-mail Tri-City Baseball (see below).
